The Management of Menopause needs to be demystified, it is not a disease. It’s time we get the facts on the table to clear the mist around the management of menopause and perimenopause. We need a culture change. A number of campaigns including the #makemenopausematter campaign to give women access to clear information, education, advice, and emotional support to empower them to take informed choices about their lives during perimenopause and the menopause.
Women need to be informed and forewarned is forearmed. It’s a physiological state, not a disease. We are in our post-reproductive innings and we will play it till we die so it’s upto us to decide how we will play our game. We need to know the symptoms and know what effective therapies are available. There is no need to suffer.
Hormone therapies will work, provided we choose the right balance for our patients. Benefits outweigh the risks in general. However, you need a clinician who is experienced in these therapies whether it’s mainstream HRT or Bioidentical Hormone therapy. The game must be played by the rules and safely.
There is good evidence for Complimentary therapies especially those around diet, energy balancing, Yin Yoga etc. These can work in conjunction with or instead of hormone therapies: either when they are not desired or contraindicated. The latter for example would be breast cancer suffers or those with clotting disorders.
Think management, think preventative medicine, think holistic. Don’t think disease, demystify the menopause.
